I. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been IOM’s main operational tool for tracking and monitoring the movements and evolving needs of displaced populations since 2004. It has been systematically deployed in medium to large-scale humanitarian response operations in the last eight years, including in all Level 3 emergencies.

The Global DTM Support Team, based in headquarters (Geneva, Switzerland), assembles expertise in operations and coordination, methodology and concept development, mapping and Geographic Information Systems, statistical analysis, database and application system development, and data and information management. The support team has been critical in providing remote and onsite support to DTM field implementation. The team provides a full range of support from the initial development and setup to continuous support on operations, staff deployment, data management, mapping, database systems, and development of information products. At the global level, the team is also striving to enhance the DTM by working on a multitude of initiatives exploring further integration of innovative technologies, improving capacity building components, and designing more streamlined processes.

Under the overall supervision of the Senior DTM Coordination Officer and direct supervision of the DTM Web Development Officer, the selected candidate will be pivotal in the development and maintenance of the DTM global web application platforms and information systems, such as the Global DTM website, and Data Dictionary interface design.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Specific duties and responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  1. Support in designing, developing, administering, and maintaining the various components of DTM Online Portal and ancillary sites. The websites should comply with IOM overall branding guidelines and security guidelines, be functional under bandwidth constraints, compatible with all devices, integrate innovative and dynamic services.
  2. Assist in managing the design, development and implementation of a scalable system for report indexing and full text searching capabilities on DTM websites and other application systems as needed.
  3. Support in designing, developing, administering and maintaining other web-based systems in support of DTM global and field implementation accordingly as the needs are identified.
  4. Assist in the design process and liaise with DTM support team members in headquarters and relevant DTM staff in the field to identify and design corresponding user interface requirements, workflows, and functionalities for systems described in previous points. As needed, create wireframes, storyboards, and prototypes to propose options for implementation.
  5. Continuously support in identifying, suggesting, develop, and implement enhancements and improvements to ensure the systems are up-to-date and making the best use of the latest technological improvements for better performance.
  6. Support in developing corresponding system and functional documentation and user manual for such systems as required, and provide relevant training to DTM and other relevant staff on the use, administration, and maintenance of the systems
  7. Assist in providing advisory and technical support on-site or remotely to DTM field implementation in identification of relevant solutions and requirements to web-based application needs in the field.
  8. Ensure that the implementation of the information management systems and application adhere to IOM Data Protection Policy and Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Policies and Standards, including on system and data security.
  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

III. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION

University Degree in Information Management, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

EXPERIENCE

  • Solid understanding of the concepts of user experience, user interface design principles and conceptual design.
  • Expert knowledge in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of Bootstrap, jQuery and AngularJS.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver is an advantage.
  • Design skills and knowledge and attention to details are essential.
  • Familiar with content management systems, mainly Drupal 9 or above is an advantage
  • Familiar with web development using PHP and JavaScript and practical knowledge of frontend developing by utilizing Ajax
  • A deep understanding and experience in rich document indexing and advanced full text search implementation

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

Required:

Applicants to the IOM internship programme must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

Context

IOM works in the five broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, addressing forced migration, and the implications of climate change on migration. Cross‐cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. The key responsibility of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is to formulate regional strategies and plans of action and to provide programmatic and administrative support to the countries within its region. Several Regional Thematic Units are based at the ROAP to fulfill this responsibility.
The Emergency and Post Crisis (EPC) Unit in the ROAP focuses on ensuring IOM Missions in Asia and the Pacific are prepared to respond to Migration Crisis needs, aid decision-making related to humanitarian affairs, and strengthens partnerships with other organizations within and outside of the humanitarian architecture.
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project was developed in response to the critical need to collect and analyze information on (protracted) displacement and human mobility in, to and from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq and Pakistan and to contribute to evidence-based humanitarian and development programming in these countries and in the region.

 

Supervision
Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Manager of DTM REMAP programme based in Bangkok, Thailand the intern will support the concern unit for smooth implementation of ongoing work.

 

Core Functions/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical support to IOM project field missions in the collection and tabulation of data for DTM REMAP and other information management activities including regional priority data collection exercises.
  2. Assist in SQL server related tasks such as creating databases, SQL statements, database importing/exporting, and creating views.
  3. Research, analyze and evaluate new applications related to information systems, to new technologies and processes to manage information in response to disasters and/or complex emergencies and make recommendations for their utilization.
  4. Support technical liaison activities with relevant partners and stakeholders to present, discuss, advise, and explore potential development and initiatives in relation to the implementation of DTM REMAP and related DTM programs and projects at the global and country levels. 5. Develop and improve ODK/Kobo forms for survey templates. 6. Prepare tabulations for technical reports, information bulletins and other relevant information products related to displacement-affected populations and migration flows (such as statistical analysis and interpretation of results of site assessment, return intention surveys, flow monitoring surveys) 7. Support in the production of information products, including, but not limited to, analytical and statistical reports, displacement profiles, maps and other relevant products, to ensure their highest possible quality. 8. Assist the DTM REMAP project field missions in data entry, database use and troubleshooting, when required. 9. Assist in the drafting and validation of standard operating procedures for DTM data collection and management. Implement a quality assurance system based on compilation best practice for data quality control as implemented by DTM offices worldwide and global guidance.
  5. Aid in the development of relevant information databases and tools including but not limited to the DTM REMAP project, sector related activities, mapping, and software tools.
  6. Provide administrative support as required.
  7. Support day-to-day activities of the DTM REMAP project and IOM Regional office, undertake any other activities and support any other project activities as requested by the supervisor.
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Interns are granted a stipend as per IOM policy as a partial contribution to accommodations and living expenses. I. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

 

Since 2004 the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) is IOM’s main operational tool for tracking and monitoring the movements and the evolving needs of displaced populations. It has been systematically deployed in medium to large-scale humanitarian response operations in the last seven years, including in all Level 3 emergencies. During 2021 DTM was active in over 86 countries. To coordinate and support operations implemented by approximately 5,600 staff, the global DTM support team is comprised of 45 specialists across eleven locations (Geneva, London, Bangkok, Nairobi, Dakar, Cairo, Pretoria, San Jose, Buenos Aires, Vienna and The Hague).

As part of the Global DTM Support team, this internship will work part of an active London based team supporting DTM country and regional offices. The position is focused on bringing the quality of analysis and reports regarding displacement and migration to a high standard for external publications. The position is key to ensuring a professional standard to DTMs analysis and reporting which can support operations and advocacy of mobile and vulnerable populations.   

Located in the IOM London office, under direct supervision of the DTM Analytics, Knowledge and Output Quality (AKO) Unit Lead (London, UK) and the DTM Lead Editor (London, UK), the successful candidate will integrate into the DTM AKO unit.
III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Objective: To provide operational reporting support to DTM Country and Regional offices.

Common to all interns in the AKO unit:

  1. Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data, as tasked by the DTM AKO unit

  2.  Facilitate the logistical organization of webinars in support of the DTM unit to ensure regular internal and external updates on human mobility and displacement; 

  3. If necessary, in coordination with DTM Country Missions provide updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility and displacement in the respective context;

  4.  Assist the DTM Country Missions and teams in London in the production and quality control of documents;

  5. Coordinate with other units of the global DTM support team to ensure continuity of functional workflows;

  6. Provide administrative and logistical support to the London team when needed;

  7.  Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance to DTM Missions, at their request;

  8. Assist in the refinement of DTM’s data collection methodologies and questionnaires, identifying good practices and providing recommendations for improvement;

  9. Support technical training of other staff, including through the organization of dedicated webinars;

I. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

Since 2004 the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been IOM’s main operational tool for tracking and monitoring the movements and the evolving needs of displaced populations. It has been systematically deployed in medium to large-scale humanitarian response operations in the last seven years, including in all Level 3 emergencies. During 2020 DTM was active in over 86 countries. To coordinate and support operations implemented by approximately 6,600 staff, the global DTM support team is comprised of 45 specialists across eight locations (Geneva, London, Bangkok, Nairobi, Dakar, Cairo, Vienna and The Hague).

With the expansion of DTM‘s portfolio, global workstreams and worldwide coverage the number of requests from external counterparts for use DTM data has exponentially increased. This has resultantly created the need to set in place more efficient procedures and systems that will in addition to maximizing the use of DTM data will contribute to enhanced data accountability and improved data governance practices.

The main objective of this internship will be to assist DTM to ensure adherence to existing policies, procedures and frameworks for DTM data sharing and assist in updating and developing new practical guidance, as needed. The intern will interact with DTM staff across geographical units, as well as with internal DTM project holders in the areas of data ethics, data governance, data protection, central data dictionary, and DTM standards. Located in the IOM London office, under direct supervision of the Data Responsibility and Ethics Officer and the global supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator, the successful candidate will integrate into the DTM AKO unit.

 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Objective: Contribute to enhanced Data Governance through facilitating adherence to and development of enhanced systems and procedures for sharing and use of DTM data with and by external counterparts.

Thematic Focus: assist DTM in applying data sound data sharing practices, in accordance with relevant internal policies:

  • Based on existing tools, and coordination with systems experts, to enhance an effective and accessible system for managing external data requests, inclusive of initial appraisal (categorization, urgency and importance), internal coordination, dataset or report readiness, lead time for preparation, response, response time, use and closure for received requests.
  • Support drafting of standard operating procedures and technical documentation for data request system management, ensuring alignment with internal data governance and other related policies and necessary coordination with relevant internal stakeholders, across DTM, other  HQ units, regional offices and country missions, depending on dataset.
  • Maintain the registry including updating the status of the data sharing request, regularly monitoring final use and results when publicly available, or following up directly to populate accountable use in the registry.
  • Support processes related to optimization of data use and risk assessment for external data sharing, by submitting initial appraisal based on recommended internal practices and policies.
  • Support the Global DTM team in the process of providing timely response, by ensuring adherence to internal data governance and other relating policies for data sharing requests that have been approved.
  • Support management of information, registry and documentation archive related to external data sharing.
  • Follow up on the output produced with the shared data, review if IOM|DTM has been properly referenced and alert management for potential sensitivities or inaccuracies.

Common to all interns in the AKO unit:

  • Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data, as tasked by the DTM AKO unit.
  • Facilitate the logistical organization of webinars in support of the DTM unit to ensure regular internal and external updates on human mobility and displacement.
  • If necessary, in coordination with DTM Country Missions provide updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility and displacement in the respective context.
  • Assist the DTM Country Missions and teams in London in the production and quality control of documents.
  • Coordinate with other units of the global DTM support team to ensure continuity of functional workflows.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the London team when needed.
  • Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance to DTM Missions, at their request.
  • Assist in the refinement of DTM’s data collection methodologies and questionnaires, identifying good practices and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Support technical training of other staff, including through the organization of dedicated webinars.

Education

Advanced degree from an accredited academic institution in a field of study related to social sciences (e.g., migration, humanitarian affairs, development studies, political science, international relations, or a related field), or the equivalent combination of  work experience in a related area.
 
Experience
  • Strong knowledge on data processing practices.
  • Previous experience working with IOM, other UN agencies, NGOs, is an advantage.

Context
IOM works in the five broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, addressing forced migration, and the implications of climate change on migration. Cross‐cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. The key responsibility of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is to formulate regional strategies and plans of action and to provide programmatic and administrative support to the countries within its region. Several Regional Thematic Units are based at the ROAP to fulfill this responsibility.
The Emergency and Post Crisis (EPC) Unit in the ROAP focuses on ensuring IOM Missions in Asia and the Pacific are prepared to respond to Migration Crisis needs, aid decision-making related to humanitarian affairs, and strengthens partnerships with other organizations within and outside of the humanitarian architecture.
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project was developed in response to the critical need to collect and analyze information on (protracted) displacement and human mobility in, to and from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq and Pakistan and to contribute to evidence-based humanitarian and development programming in these countries and in the region.

 

Supervision
Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Manager of DTM REMAP programme based in Bangkok, Thailand the intern will support the concern unit for smooth implementation of ongoing work.

 

Core Functions/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist in researching and drafting dashboards, flash information sheets, papers and reports describing and analyzing human mobility of Afghan, Bangladeshi, Iranian, Iraqi and Pakistani nationals inside their countries and across international borders.
  2. Assist in compiling, analyzing, visualizing human mobility data within Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq and Pakistan for DTM REMAP reporting purposes.
  3. Assist with the development of monthly and quarterly DTM REMAP products including newsletters, monthly and quarterly project update report compilations and any other reports or info sheets
  4. Assist in monitor day-to-day policy developments and debates within the partner institutions and organizations and provide information to the DTM REMAP Support Unit accordingly.
  5. Aid in the development of relevant information databases and tools including but not limited to the IOM Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific DTM REMAP project, sector related activities, mapping, and software tools.
  6. Assist with the management of social media and online web-outlets related to the DTM REMAP project.

Eligibility and Selection
The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The Internship Programme is open to candidates of any nationality.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

General Information

  • Interns are granted stipend as per IOM policy as a partial contribution to accommodations and living expenses. The current outbreak of COVID-19 has affected global mobility in complex and unprecedented ways in the form of various travel restrictions, suspension of air travel and border closures. To better understand this, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has developed a global mobility database to map these impacts on human mobility, across global, regional and country levels. Furthermore, COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations in camps and camp-like settings as well as exacerbated the vulnerabilities of mobile populations who may now be stranded owing to COVID-19 related mobility restrictions. This data is particularly important when addressing specific needs faced by migrants and mobile populations.

The main objective of this internship will be to assist IOM to continue and develop its global workstreams on monitoring the impacts of mobility as a result of COVID-19. This includes work on the following workstreams: Global Mobility Restrictions, Point of Entry Monitoring, Impact on Migrants.

Located in the IOM London office, under direct supervision of the DTM Analytics, Knowledge and Output Quality (AKO) Unit Lead (London, UK) and the DTM Lead Editor (London, UK), the successful candidate will integrate into the DTM AKO unit.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) gathers and analyzes data to disseminate critical multi layered information on the mobility, vulnerabilities, and needs of displaced and mobile populations that enables decision makers and responders to provide these populations with better context specific assistance.

The DTM Support Team, based in headquarters, assembles expertise in operations and coordination, methodology and concept development, mapping and Geographic Information Systems, statistical analysis, database and application system development, and data and information management. The support team has been critical in providing remote and onsite support to DTM field implementation.

Under the overall supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator and direct supervision of the Senior DTM Coordination Manager, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for providing support to the activities and services provided by DTM support team in headquarters for DTM implementation in the field worldwide, in particular to support development and implementation of supplementary and interoperable systems for quality assurance and further improvement of global DTM data and analysis.

 
 
 
II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
 
Specific duties and responsibilities will include the following tasks:
 
  1. Support in ensuring timely and accurate collection and database storage. This includes hands on coding ensuring data collected is proofed to source, handling daily exceptions (changes to source data, process errors, verifying suspect data), applying industry standard methodologies, and tracking to operational metrics.
  2. Support in analysing new data management assignments, developing scripts and tests to Extract, Transform and Load data from different country sources into the Central Data Warehouse and conforming to the DTM data dictionary, including data validation, change requests and providing quick and efficient solutions to data sourcing issues.
  3. Support in building requirements, metadata, backup procedures, and process documentation, and overall management of dataset addition process.
  4. Works with various parts of the global DTM Support team to ensure that content is delivered on-time, regardless of system issues, and that the format and structure supports the operational requirements.
  5. Support in data audit on exceptions and outliers associated with specific datasets. This may include verification, additional research, and modelling or related analyses.
  6. Support on development of data queries for internal use as require, as well as one-time data pulls from database as requested.

Desired:

  • Hands-on of advanced data manipulation tools (graph databases, cubes, relational and non-relational databases, streaming processing) and distributed architectures (Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Kassandra, MongoDB) is a plus.

I. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments, the private sector, and migrants.


Context
IOM works in the five broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, addressing forced migration, and the implications of climate change on migration. Cross‐cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. The key responsibility of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is to formulate regional strategies and plans of action and to provide programmatic and administrative support to the countries within its region.
Several Regional Thematic Units are based at the ROAP to fulfill this responsibility.

The Emergency and Post Crisis (EPC) Unit in the ROAP focuses on ensuring IOM Missions in Asia and the Pacific are prepared to respond to Migration Crisis needs, aid decision-making related to humanitarian affairs, and strengthens partnerships with other organizations within and outside of the humanitarian architecture.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project was developed in response to the critical need to collect and analyze information on (protracted) displacement and human mobility in, to and from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq and Pakistan and to contribute to evidence-based humanitarian and development programming in these countries and in the region.


Supervision
Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Manager of DTM REMAP programme based in Bangkok, Thailand the intern (home-based) will support the concern unit for smooth implementation of ongoing work.

 

 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist in researching and drafting dashboards, flash information sheets, papers and reports describing and analyzing human mobility of Afghan, Bangladeshi, Iranian, Iraqi and Pakistani nationals inside their countries and across international borders.
  2. Assist in compiling, analyzing, visualizing human mobility data within Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq and Pakistan for DTM REMAP reporting purposes.
  3. Assist with the development of monthly and quarterly DTM REMAP products including newsletters, monthly and quarterly project update report compilations and any other reports or info sheets
  4. Assist in monitor day-to-day policy developments and debates within the partner institutions and organizations and provide information to the DTM REMAP Support Unit accordingly.
  5. Aid in the development of relevant information databases and tools including but not limited to the DTM REMAP project, sector related activities, mapping, and software tools.
  6. Assist with the management of social media and online web-outlets related to the DTM REMAP project.
  7. Assist in organizing meetings, seminars and high-level missions as needed.
  8. Provide administrative support as required.
  9. Support day-to-day activities of the DTM REMAP project and IOM Regional office, undertake any other activities and support any other project activities as requested by the supervisor.
  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

III. TRAINING COMPONENTS AND LEARNING ELEMENTS

  • Gain in-depth knowledge on the migration data, displacement tracking matrix (DTM), emergency and post-crisis migration and displacement portfolio in Asia and the Pacific.

IV. ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION

The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The Internship Programme is open to candidates of any nationality.

 

 

V. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated;
  • Able to adapt to an international, multicultural, multilingual environment;
  • Good communication skills and able to work in a team;
  • Familiarity with computer programs, including MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher);
  • Advanced English writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge regarding quantitative statistical (social science/human mobility/migration) data analysis
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization programs, (e.g. PowerBI, GIS ARC, Stata, SPSS, Knowledge of R, Tableau) will be considered an advantage;
  • Webpage as well as database development and management skills an advantage;

VII. GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Interns are granted stipend as per IOM policy as a partial contribution to accommodations and living expenses. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
  2. Before commencing work, successful candidates will be required to obtain a fit-to-work medical certificate from his/her doctor and submit vaccination records.
  3. The Intern will be responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to Bangkok. IOM will assist only in issuing documents required for visa processing.
  4. IOM only covers the Intern against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. The Intern is responsible for his/her own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
  5. Any work produced by interns during their internship within the framework of the duties assigned to them should be used for academic purposes exclusively. All economic and moral rights (copyright) pertaining to such work will remain the exclusive property of IOM.
  6. Interns are bound by staff confidentiality rules pertaining to their duties in IOM.

I. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

Since 2004 the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) is IOM’s main operational tool for tracking and monitoring the movements and the evolving needs of displaced populations. It has been systematically deployed in medium to large-scale humanitarian response operations in the last seven years, including in all Level 3 emergencies. DTM has been active in over 72 countries. To coordinate and support operations implemented by approximately 5,200 staff, the global DTM support team is comprised of 45 specialists across eight locations (Geneva, London, Bangkok, Nairobi, Dakar, Cairo, Vienna and The Hague). Since its inception the global support team includes, on average, 50% female and 50% male staff as well as a diverse range of nationalities.

Global DTM support is organized within the following units: Global System Management (GSM); Project and Operations Support (POS); Operations and Methodological Framework (OMF); Data Systems and Centralization (DSC); Data Management, Verification and Procedures (MVP); Digital Content Management (DCM); Analytics, Knowledge and Output Quality (AKO); Data Models and Learning (DML); DTM and Data Partnerships (DDP); Geospatial Analytics (GSA); Data Initiated Operations (DIO); and Humanitarian and Development Solutions (HDS).

Located in the IOM London office, under direct supervision of the Unit Management Co-Leads and the overall supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator (London), in conjunction with IOM Chad, the successful candidate will be part of the AKO unit to remotely support the Chad response and wider West and Central Africa (WCA) analysis.

 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES


Under the overall supervision of the Global DTM Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Unit Management Co-Leads in the London DTM AKO unit, the incumbent will provide remote support to the DTM response to the Chad situation through the review, processing and analysis of data collected through the DTM and other relevant displacement and mobility data collection in the country and surrounding region.


Thematic focus: Reporting (Chad response)

In particular, he/she will:

  • Provide support in creating narrative reporting outputs and dashboards for DTM data on the Chad situation, notably at the data review, processing and analysis phases;
  • Assist in identifying information gaps and how to improve data collection methodologies and tools for the 2020 data collection cycle;
  • Assist in the production, review and quality control of documents on the Chad situation;
  • Assist in the production of infographics on the Chad situation;
  • Facilitate the organization of webinars or other events in support of DTM’s work on the Chad situation to ensure regular internal and external updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility in Chad and surrounding countries.
  • Stay abreast of the most recent secondary data sources, publications and other relevant information on the Chad context;
     

Common to all interns in the AKO unit:

  • Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in the review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance;
  • Assist the DTM Reporting Unit with the revision, translation and uploading of reports, dashboards and assessments;
  • If necessary, to provide updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations in allocated countries;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support when needed.  
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
